TARGET SHOOTING FOR AIR-RIFLE, CENTERFIRE AND RIMFIRE
About.
The MMSRC was started in 1980 as an outlet for those wanting to use or practice their field rifle skills on the target range. The dominant ethos leans toward using hunting equipment from positions typical of a hunting environment. The programme includes a number of disciplines with this common theme, such as; Metallic Silhouette, Field Rifle, 3-Position and the excruciatingly challenging Fly Shoot. The club also runs air-rifle, shotgun and handgun events on a less regular basis.
We welcome visitors and new members to our sport and, with low membership fees, offer an opportunity for members of other clubs to join us and test their long range skills.
We can arrange club training for firearms licence holders needing endorsement to shoot in clubs unfortunately we are currently not in a position to train unlicenced shooters.

Metallic Silhouette.
Shooting is done from what is called the "standing unsupported position", that is, standing upright with the rifle fired from the shoulder, with no rest or support for the shooter or for the rifle. All classes of rifles are used - air rifle, rimfire (22 LR) and centrefire rifles. Some competitors go all out with custom built equipment, but most use factory rifles.
The targets are silhouettes of Chickens, Pigs, Turkeys and Rams and the target size varies with the class of rifle. Targets are shot in banks of five in a time limit of 2.5 minutes for five shots. Matches consist of ten of each target type for 40 shots total. The distance varies from 20 – 45 yards for air rifle, 40 – 100 metres for rimfire and 200 – 500 metres for centrefire. To score a hit in metallic silhouette the target must be knocked from its stand.
Field Rifle and 3-Positional.
Field Rifle and 3-Positional are two closely related matches. Each involves shooting at paper targets from a variety of positions with either rimfire (22 LR) or centrefire rifles. Rifle slings are allowed in these events.
Fly Shoot.
Fly Shoot is a long range precision shooting match. It was developed in Australia and the target has an outline of a blowfly in the centre, hence the name. If you hit the “blowie” you are eligible for a Fly Patch
Shotgun.
MMSRC also runs shotguns, these are informal events compared with serious shotgun clubs.
